Monday came and my sadness over leaving definitely hit. I spent the morning enjoying a cappuccino while editing and then in Amy's office blogging and then decided I would spend my last two days just hanging around and going down to the harbor to sit in the sun. I made my way out onto the rocks and found a perfect spot with a beautiful view. I decided the beach was too busy. I wanted a quieter spot where I could just listen to the waves. After a while out there, more people made their way out onto the rocks. I ended up talking to a friend of a friend and going out on a boat to another beach that was empty. It was a nice change. :) I had just enough time to go get ready and go back to the marina for my final photo shoot and then spent some time in the marina just taking it all in. I had waves of sadness thinking about leaving. Pics from all of that are below.
I ended the night with drinks with Kelly and her dad, so it made for a really great last night.
The coop is one of the markets. It is basically the chain store of the area. This was across from my apartment so I shopped there a few times but mostly went to Amy's in-laws market.
The butcher. I was here every few days for my bones for bone broth and meats to make dinners. I loved getting my food this way and watching the process.
Self explanatory. I actually loved doing my laundry here, enjoying a wine or coffee while I waited for it across the street at Vertical and then hanging it all out to dry.
Vertical Bar. #1 on TripAdvisor and owned by my friend Jen and her husband along with another man. This is where I was for most of the evenings we were out for drinks. Perfect spot with a great atmosphere.
I got to the airport at about 11:15 and enjoyed a cappuccino before checking in. Once in, I was editing photos and messaging friends. At 1, when we were supposed to be boarding, they announced that we may be canceled due to winds. It was VERY windy and rainy that day and the runway is right along the ocean. They finally cancelled for good at 1:30 (the time we should have been taking off). I stood in line for 3 hours. I talked to others, watched them figure out all of these complicated ways to get people home and wanted no part of it. I had run out of food I could eat and the thought of traveling for another 24 hours straight without food and being sent on three planes instead of 2 and adding in a hotel and other things in between, it was not worth rushing home. I had no work until the following week (on purpose) and had a concert I was really bummed about missing, but all in all, was in no rush. I told the man at the counter this and that I could just wait until there was a flight that would get me home going the same route I was supposed to be on that day. In the meantime, I had been messaging with the girls back in Rio. As it turned out, Amy had a no-show for one of her apartments so I had a place to stay. The next flight they could get me on was Saturday and so, I was heading back to the village and honestly happy about it. It took a while since the trains were a mess and I had over an hour delay, but I finally arrived at 8:30, 12 hours after I'd left. I made my way to the apartment and then to Kelly's where she gave me some food I could eat for dinner. I was deliriously tired by the time I went to sleep.
